Pricing and listing your names
A buyer can only buy a name if they can find out it is for sale and see a price they can act on.
Set a price
Use your comps from Lesson 3. Then pick one of three ways to sell:
| Way | How it works | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Buy It Now | A fixed price. The buyer can pay at once. | Most names. Fast and clear. |
| Make an offer | The buyer names a price. You talk. | Rare names where you do not know the top. |
| Lease to own | The buyer pays monthly and owns it at the end. | Small businesses that cannot pay all at once. |
List where buyers look
Marketplaces such as Afternic and Sedo show your names to buyers and to partner registrars. Some networks show a "for sale" price right in a registrar's search results, which brings buyers who were looking for a name like yours.
Each marketplace takes a commission when a name sells. Read the current rate on each site before you list.
Use a sale page
When someone types your name into a browser, they should see a clean page that says it is for sale, with a price or an offer form. A parked page full of ads makes buyers leave.
Change prices slowly
Do not drop the price because a name has not sold in a month. Change prices based on real offers and real comps, and review the full list once or twice a year.
