Domain name grader

Type a domain or a few words for a new idea. You get a grade on the name itself, a check on whether it is free, and close names you can still register.

How the grade works

The grade looks at the name only. It does not look at traffic, because most good names are new ideas or old names with no site on them. It scores four things, 25 points each:

CheckWhat scores well
Extension.com first. .net, .org, .co, .io and .ai next.
LengthShorter is better. Up to 10 letters scores high.
Say it out loudEasy to say and spell when you hear it once.
CleanNo hyphens, no numbers in place of words. Either one caps the grade at C.

A famous brand inside the name caps the grade at F. Read lesson 4 to see why, and check the USPTO trademark search before you buy. A grade is a guide, not a price. Check past sales in lesson 3.

The free check reads public registry records (RDAP; server list from IANA, saved in src/rdap.json). Some extensions, like .io and .co, have no public lookup, so the tool says "could not check". "Looks available" is not a promise: confirm at the registrar. Some registrar links may be affiliate links; if you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no cost to you.
